She's of French Scottish, Irish and German heritage. Her father John Martin Magenau Jr. was President and CEO at the Jackson Koehler Eagle Brewery in Erie Pennsylvania which had been founded in 1847. It was shut down in 1978. Jacobs started studying acting at the age of eight and took acting classes on Saturdays in the Pittsburgh Playhouse while growing up.She participated in Pittsburgh Public Theater. Pittsburgh Public Theater where she always competed for the public's Shakespeare Monologue Contest leading her to be chosen as Titania in the stage production A Midsummer Night's Dream. Mt. Lebanon High School in the year 2000, Jacobs moved in New York City New York for a place at the Juilliard School where she was part of Drama Division's Group 33. Her bachelor's degree was awarded in 2004.
